Sidmouth Town AFC 3

BRIDPORT suffered back-to-back league defeats after Sidmouth took all three points at St Mary's Field in the South West Peninsula League.

Chris Herbst charges were caught napping early in the second half leaving far too much to do, despite a late goal from Isaac House setting up a tense finish to the match.

Sidmouth opened the scoring early via Liam Carey's eighth minute free kick. The forward rifled his shot under the Bees wall, beating Jordan Scadding in goal.

The Bees got straight back into the match through Soloman Ayunga's close range finish on eleven minutes. Jake Childs cross from the left found the striker in the box who fired home from close range to level the scores.

Herbst men then started to grow into the game as the half went on after the visitors early dominance.

Riley Weedon played Stefana Stavrianos in, but the Bees forward was drifting away from goal and put his shot over the bar.

New signing Dan Sheehy then created from the right wing as he cut in off the line and whipped a ball into the box - which was almost turned into the back of the net by one of Sidmouth's own defenders.

After the break, the Bees would be caught napping twice in quick succession.

First from Louis Jagger Cane who rifled one in from the edge of the box after the visitors had hit the Bees the counter.

Five minutes later, with 55 minutes on the clock, another Sidmouth breakaway saw the Bees trailing 3-1.

Craig Veal's clipped ball found Ryan Gilpin at the back post with the midfielder showing some neat footwork before slotting it past Scadding into the bottom corner.

The Bees had given themselves a lot to do in the second half and were pushing to get themselves back in the game.

Substitute House narrowly put an effort wide after stretching for a cross, whilst Dan Baggs also came close, heading just over the bar from a corner.

Ayunga was unable to claim a second for himself  either after Joe Charles found the striker who put his strike over the bar.

With five minutes to go though, the Bees set up a nervy finish as House's good performance off the bench resulted in a really well taken goal.

Ayunga turned provider for House, whose first touch took the ball out of his feet, before firing off a wonderful strike into the bottom corner - too little too late - as the game finished 3-2 to Sidmouth.
