The pressure was palpable, with Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers Vixens looming close behind, threatening to snatch their position with a strong performance.

However, a defensive lapse at the third minute saw Wincanton capitalise, taking the lead with an opportunistic goal by Liz Borley.

Undeterred, Bridport rallied, intensifying their assault on the Wincanton goal.

Aleeshea Rowland broke through the defence in the 11th minute, rifling home the equaliser with precision.

Momentum firmly in their favour, Bridport continued to press forward.

Holly Perryment showcased her scoring prowess, notching her 24th goal of the season with a clinical strike from distance.

The floodgates had now opened as Flo Valinski and Rowland added to the tally, putting Bridport comfortably ahead 4-1 at half-time.

As the second half unfolded, Bridport remained vigilant, aware of the implications of every goal. Tactical adjustments were made to maintain their advantage, with Lucy Paull extending the lead with a well-placed free kick.

Darby then stole the show, completing her brace with two expertly-taken goals, securing her status as the stand-out performer of the match.

Despite a late consolation goal from Wincanton’s Nikita Palmer, Bridport emerged triumphant, clinching a vital victory.

Fortunes aligned elsewhere, as Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers Vixens' 7-2 victory over Pen Mill did not diminish Bridport's marginally superior goal difference, setting the stage for a thrilling finale.

Bridport on Sunday visit Wincanton knowing a victory will seal third place in the Somerset County Women’s League Division Two South.
