BRIDPORT Indoor Bowls Club played host to a ‘best of Dorset’ side for the annual Max Dare Memorial Trophy match, raising over £400 for the Motor Neurone Disease charity.

Dare played more than one hundred times for Dorset before succumbing to Motor Neurone Disease and, such was his popularity, the memorial match was born.

With the match drawn last year, another close match was expected but the county side ran out 87-62 winners this time.

Bob Taylor, Brian Walsh, Brian Rumble and Barry Rattenbury did record a fine 25-12 win for Bridport against Phil Lock's four.

Michael Higman and Mike Smith shared the lead position with Phil Godfrey, Sue Walsh and John Burwood completing their quartet competed well before losing 19-12 against Terry Buck’s four.

County president Phil Dearlove, instrumental in arranging the first trophy match, and his rink were unstoppable though as they destroyed Mel Hargett, Gordon Lee, Bob Hill and Andy Marsh 30-5 to claim the trophy for another year.
