BRIDPORT boss Chris Herbst is targeting a deep run in the Walter C Parson Cup this season, with Wendron United visiting St Mary’s Field on Saturday (2pm).
In what is effectively the league cup for the South West Peninsula League, teams in its Premier West and Premier East divisions can play each other.
And the draw has pitted Bridport against Premier West side Wendron, third in their division.
While the fixture itself is a rarity, Bridport have some knowledge of the Dron thanks to left-back James Cox.
Herbst told the Bridport News: “Coxy said they’re something to do with the Navy so they’re strong lads, quite fit.

“It will be a tough one but it’s always good to play against teams you don’t know.
“We need to get our winning formula back. (Tuesday) night we got the win but didn’t play that well. We need to build on that and get the performances better.
“Pressure off on the league will be good and the players are looking forward to it, we want to go deep in the competition.”
Herbst also dismissed the idea of wholesale changes, adding: “There might be one or two but with our squad now we do it to freshen people up.
“I always like the cups and it’s nice if we play a team we haven’t played and go to a new ground. It’s also good to get a win so that when you go back to the league you’re in good form.
“If you have a good cup run it keeps everyone interested.”
Cox (quad) is Bridport’s only injury doubt and the Bees are close to signing a centre-back.
