SOUTH PETHERTON RES 3

DRIMPTON suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to rivals South Petherton Reserves in the Arthur Gage Cup final at Tiger Way.

Right from the start of the game it was Petherton who settled into the game quickest.

Early chances were created and missed before Dave Smith ran through and finished calmly under the Drimpton keeper.

Drimpton nearly replied instantly with a goalbound Max Dicker effort but the Petherton custodian made a smart save.

Petherton created more chances towards the end of the first half but failed to double their lead, while Drimpton were limited to scraps with Petherton defending strongly.

A change of formation at half-time still failed to inspire the Greens with Petherton continuing to run the game and creating chance after chance.

The game was effectively over on the 72-minute mark when a corner was flicked on and into the net by Danny Palmer to give Petherton the cushion they deserved.

They added to their tally towards the end of the game when striker Josh Bellew lobbed the Greens’ keeper to seal an impressive display from the men in white.

Drimpton manager Andy Loudon said: "We were simply second best and lost to a very good Petherton side.

“From the first whistle to the last whistle we were second best.

“They defended very well and were first to any loose ball.

“I cannot fault the determination and effort from my players but it was just not to be.

“We have come along way over a short period of time and they should be proud of what they have achieved, because I certainly am."
