BRIDPORT boss Edgar Marcu challenged his Bees side to adopt a winning mentality against Honiton Town in their first home game of the season tonight (7.30pm).

League officials were at the time of writing negotiating a 7.45pm kick-off with Bridport but fans are advised to turn up as if the match begins at 7.30pm to avoid disappointment.

And Bridport will be counting on their supporters for backing as they seek to earn their first points of the South West Peninsula League Premier East campaign.

It comes after a 1-0 loss to Ivybridge Town on Saturday.

Speaking following that game, Marcu said: “We target three points – this has to be the mentality.

“We have to go on the pitch and believe we can do it. This is what we expect from this team.

“I’ve been reserved against Ivybridge because they’re a very good side and we will still be reserved against Honiton but we have to go out on that pitch and take our points.

“I’ve done research on them, it will be a tough game but we have to target three points.

“I’m not saying it’s granted but three points is the attitude.”

Bridport welcome back midfielder Mo Hereka and full-back Jack White for the clash at St Mary’s Field, plus striker Josh Hunter and midfielder Adam Steele.

However, attacking-minded youngster Lewis Howe is unavailable.

Marcu added: “We have some decent players back in the squad, which is great.

“Matheus (Oliveira) has a groin injury but I don’t think it’s something serious, let’s hope it’s not serious.”

Reflecting further on the loss at Ivybridge, in which the home side wasted a host of chances, Marcu added: “It’s just the first game but we missed also some players.

“It’s not an excuse but it’s part of what was happening. I don’t think 1-0 to Ivybridge shows the real face of the game.”
