WIMBORNE & COLEHILL 272-5 (20pts) beat CATTISTOCK & SYMENE 105 (3pts) by 167 runs

CATTISTOCK & Symene were thrashed by 167 runs as Dorset Premier League leaders Wimborne & Colehill ran riot at the Leaze.

The Foxes conceded 272-5 in the first innings and were then bowled out for just 105, sinking to the bottom of the table by 15 points after relegation rivals Puddletown comfortably beat Broadstone.

Steve Tucker's men were powerless to stop Wimborne's destructive batting, despite the early scalp of opener Colin Randall (7) for George Wyrill (3-42).

New batter Mark House joined forces with Ben Bridgen and the duo piled on a whopping 218 for the second wicket.

Bridgen roared to a century, crashing a massive 20 boundaries, but House (88) departed before reaching treble figures as Luke King (1-46) struck.

Brad Mullins (1-48) pinned Simon Watkins (0) lbw but Bridgen (129) continued to flay the Foxes' attack to all parts before falling to Wyrill, helping set a target of 273 for the visitors.

Cattistock & Symene's reply was battered early on by Harry Montacute, the paceman ripping through the top order with 4-27, Wes Lewis (22) the only real form of resistance.

Tucker smashed 30 from 39 balls but Simon Watkins took 5-15 and Harry Prince 1-13 to quickly seal a mammoth win.

BERE REGIS 171-4 (19pts) beat CATTISTOCK & SYMENE 167-9 (6pts) by six wickets

IN A season featuring several close finishes, this time Cattistock & Symene Seconds’ inability to take wickets proved decisive and saw hosts Bere Regis sneak home with just 10 balls to spare.

Batting first in their County Division Three clash, skipper Reuben Kingston made a classy 54 gaining support from the in-form Luke Robertson (22).

The innings was supercharged by an excellent run-a-ball innings of 45 from Jordan Notley at number seven and the visitors eyed a match-winning total despite being pegged back by bowlers Garry King (4-26) and Joel Curtis (3-33).

In reply, Bere, despite being checked by Charlie Eccleson (2-28) removing both openers, managed to limit further damage and were indebted to Tom Swain’s 61 underpinning the innings to keep the Foxes at bay.

Kingston’s men pressed in vain for further breakthroughs and the result was still in the balance late in the game until a priceless undefeated 27 runs from 20 balls from King snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Afterwards Kingston reflected on a victory that got away.

He said: “We’re still well in the mix at the halfway point in the season.

"This tight division seems destined to be decided in the final week and hopefully we will still be there or thereabouts come September."

CATTISTOCK & SYMENE III 57 (4pts) lost to WEYMOUTH II 236-8 (20pts) by 179 runs

WONDERFUL Weymouth Seconds continued their unbeaten start to the County Division Six season with a crushing 179-run victory over Cattistock & Symene Thirds.

Andy Jarvis’ men have now won all six games but this was their biggest of the season and third by more than 150 runs.

Winning the toss and batting first in a game played out in frequent drizzle, the Seasiders amassed a big score of 236-8 from their 40 overs.

Brian Keane (35) set the tone with seven boundaries before he nicked Nate Stantiford-Knight (1-35) behind to Leo Gurd.

Tony Quayle (20) nurdled the ball around with ease but Weymouth lost Neil Patel (5) to a bizarre run out off a no-ball, before Quayle was caught off Luke Sibley (1-34).

Weymouth lost Stuart Suggs (0) cheaply but Marco Nott crashed seven fours, forming a brutal combination with Mark Rogers.

Although Weymouth saw Nott (35) chop on to his own stumps via his back foot off Graham Bartlett (3-31), Rogers sprinted to a blistering half-century.

He launched his first ball for six and blazed to his 50 from just 21 balls, rocketing Weymouth past 200.

He was eventually bowled for 66 by Bartlett having blasted six fours and five maximums from just 27 balls.

Jarvis (19) and Graham Puckett (12) added late runs and a healthy dollop of 37 extras set the Foxes 237 to win.

Ollie James (23) drove Puckett (1-8) for a four off the first ball of their innings but the veteran seamer responded by bowling Lloyd Cleal (1).

The hosts’ main trouble came at the other end as returning seamer Tom Chedzoy was running riot, clean bowling Justin Gurd (1) and last week’s centurion Leo Gurd (0) in successive balls to leave the Foxes on 18-3.

Nott (1-12) had James caught behind by Quayle and the hosts’ innings quickly subsided as a magical spell from Chedzoy (5-11) reduced them to 29-7.

John Ryan (2-7) chipped in with a brace but Stantiford-Knight (9no) batted well late on to delay the Foxes’ fate, which was sealed when Taylor Mallet (1-2) bowled Wyatt Sibley (0).
