BRIDPORT delivered the definition of a Jekyll and Hyde performance with a 7-0 home loss to Toolstation Western League high-fliers Tavistock.

The Bees had done superbly well to hold the second-placed Lambs to 0-0 at half-time, before capitulating in the second half.

With negative results a feature of Bridport’s season, the Bees’ fragile confidence evaporated when Tavistock opened the scoring.

Up to then, Bridport coped well as keeper Greg Taylor tipped over Daniel Koita’s shot before Bridport’s Dan Baggs went close with a 20-yard free-kick.

Tavistock edged ahead after the break when Luke Brown pounced on a goalmouth scramble to beat Taylor.

Liam Prynn netted on the counter for 2-0 and then collected a long ball, dummying Taylor before finishing Tavistock’s third.

Prynn lobbed Taylor to complete his hat-trick and Josh Parry added a fifth with more than 15 minutes remaining.

Prynn displayed his appetite for goals by bagging his fourth, dancing through three challenges to beat Taylor.

Bridport’s afternoon worsened when the Bees conceded a penalty, allowing Josh Grant to fire home from the spot.

Speaking post-match, Bees’ boss Rob Marquis said: “It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance.

“You send them out there, there’s no pressure. Express yourselves, play with no fear – and they did.

“It was still 0-0 at half-time and as much as I praised them I said: ‘Do not concede after five minutes’.

“Then we conceded one every seven minutes after a good display in the first half. It was disappointing.”
