BARNSTAPLE & PILTON 125 (3pts) lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS 127-1 (20pts) by nine wickets

UPLYME & Lyme Regis look to be returning to their formidable best after a nine-wicket win over Barnstaple & Pilton.

Victory takes Uplyme into second place, level with Alphington on 178 points overall but crucially 1.62 adrift on average.

Joe Elsworth helped set this win up, his 4-18 ripping through the hosts' top order after Uplyme won the toss and fielded first.

Only opener James Roe (45), wicketkeeper Andrew Fewings (15) and number 10 batsman George Elnaugh (28) made meaty contributions.

Steve Batey then returned figures of 3-24 to help bowl the home side out for 125.

Uplyme made typically short work of the target, chasing it down in 21.5 overs for the loss of only one wicket.

Elsworth (18) was caught off Clive Ball (1-29) but Batey (58no) crunched his fifth half-century of the season to put Uplyme in command.

He was assisted by captain Sam Farrow (44no) as Uplyme romped home.
