NEW Bridport manager Rob Marquis is “fully aware” of the size of the job he faces at the Bees.

Ex-assistant boss Marquis on Saturday took the hotseat after John Godbold was offered a role in the Middle East coaching at soccer schools.

Former Bridport and Weymouth goalkeeper Marquis will be assisted by Shaun Annetts, with the duo set to meet last night to discuss plans.

Bridport have a limited budget amid a Toolstation Western League Premier Division packed with big-spending teams and quality squads.

The Bees won just one of 10 games last season before Covid-19 forced an early curtailment.

And, with Bridport choosing to build for the future with youth players, Marquis is going into the job with his “eyes open” as to the scale of the task.

He told Echosport: “I’m very pleased to take it and I’m fully aware of what I’m up against.

“I haven’t got a magic wand. There’s no point me telling you I’m going to produce a league-winning team.

“I’ll roll my sleeves up, get stuck in and have a go. I’ll work very hard, as will Shaun and all the people with me.

“I’m aware of the difficulties we’re up against to turn things round. We were down languishing at the bottom before John and I arrived.

“We knew we had a job on our hands, and that job still exists.

“There’s no point me making big, bold predictions. I’ve always had the belief that it takes three years to build a side and get that side established and playing together.

“You don’t get offered these jobs very often, so you’re not going to say no, are you?

“I’ve gone in completely with my eyes open.”
