BEAMINSTER batsman Daniel Spiller has been appointed second-team captain for two competitions in the 2021 season.

At a virtual edition of the club’s AGM, Spiller agreed to skipper Beaminster sides entered into the Mid Wessex T20 and Middleton Hands events.

In the only other personnel change, opening bowler Nick Hollely will take over the secretarial reins after Nikki Bareham decided to step down from her two-year stint.

Beaminster wished to place their thanks to Bareham on record.

Following the shortened 2020 campaign, Beaminster ended up 10th having won one of five games completed – a 29-run win over Shillingstone in the first game of the season.

Hopes are high that the 2021 calendar will return to normal, with 18 league games.

Beaminster were promoted into County Division One after finishing second in the 2019 season.

With the club’s youth section limited to training and individual sessions in 2020, the west Dorset side aim to enter youth teams at under-10, under-14 and under-16 level into the Mid Wessex Youth League.

There will also be a continued focus on All Stars and Dynamos cricket, which take place over six to eight-week programmes.
