WAREHAM RANGERS 0

LYME REGIS 2

TWO goals from dependable striker Joe Bond helped Lyme Regis beat Wareham Rangers 2-0 and book their place in the Dorset Senior Trophy quarter-finals.

Bond had earlier missed a couple of chances in the first half as Fred Parsons and Dan Rendell were also guilty of firing off-target.

Wareham nearly punished the Seasiders when missing a header from close range late in the first half.

However, Lyme resumed in the ascendancy and sealed the win in the second half.

Bond struck a simple finish after excellent work from Fred Parsons to create the opening, before adding his second 20 minutes from time when a mazy run from Sam Pollard-Jones teed up an easy goal.

Lyme joint-boss Mark Bailey said: “I’m more than happy with the result.

“We were pretty rusty and they were in a similar boat in terms of not playing for a couple of weeks.

“But the lads have been training hard and focused in training, so that’s kept it going.

“We should’ve been out of sight – we missed so many chances. Joe will admit himself it wasn’t his best game but he still kept getting in the right positions.

“However Joe’s playing he always gives you 100 per cent – you can’t ask for more from a striker, can you?”

Lyme return to league action, weather permitting, on Saturday at home to unbeaten leaders Feniton (2.15pm).
