UPLYME & LYME REGIS 145-2 (16pts) beat AXMINSTER 143-3 (4pts) by eight wickets

BELLIGERENT batting from Uplyme & Lyme Regis captain Steve Batey inspired his side to a huge eight-wicket win over Axminster at King George V Playing Fields.

Batey smashed 111 from 48 balls, including 12 fours and eight sixes, as Uplyme reached their target of 144 in just 17.4 overs.

Axminster had earlier batted watchfully in overcast conditions, avoiding a repeat of their dismissal for just 48 by Uplyme in the reverse game.

Daniel Murnane was the anchor for Axminster, his 48 not out coming from 113 balls.

Bradley Conway (28) and Benjamin Webb (26no) also contributed useful scores but all-rounder Batey was in form with the ball too, taking 2-15 from eight overs to restrict Axminster to 143-3 from 40 overs.

In reply, Batey was a constant menace to the visiting attack.

He continued his assault despite Matt Chenery (2-54) removing fellow opener Alfie Jacques (14) at 57-1.

Batey’s power duly helped chalk up a sensational ton before Chenery returned to prise him out.

Mark Batey (14no) and Joe Elsworth (2no) then eased the hosts to their fourth straight win.
