UPLYME & LYME REGIS 247-6 (20pts) beat HONITON 109 (5pts) by 138 runs

TYLER Wellman stole the show with a sublime third successive century as Uplyme & Lyme Regis thrashed Honiton by 138 runs at King George V Playing Fields.

Wellman cracked 106 to add to innings of 100 not out against Ottery St Mary Seconds and an unbeaten 102 against Axminster.

Wellman’s average is now a gigantic 308 this season, with Uplyme taking three wins in a row in Devon Cricket League East E Three Tier Five.

Uplyme won the toss and batted on a sun-drenched afternoon but were reduced to 13-2 when Steve Batey (4) and Alfie Jaques (5) fell cheaply.

Wellman came in at four and instantly picked up the run rate, despite Mark Batey (7) perishing to the economical Alan Ostler (1-26).

Wellman began to hit his stride with some belligerent batting and found an able ally in Joe Elsworth (43), the duo sharing 115 before the latter was bowled by Michael Docherty (2-36).

Uplyme continued to score freely with Wellman in full flight and the star batsman passed 100 for the third time this season before opening bowler James Pickard (2-32) returned to claim his scalp.

Useful late runs from Sam Farrow (40no) helped propel the hosts to an imposing 247-6 from 40 overs.

In reply, Honiton had no answer to the seam bowling of Steve Batey (5-12), who bowled an impressive five maidens in his eight overs.

From 87-4, Honiton tumbled to 109 all out as Wellman (2-7) came on to help wrap the victory up.
