ST. CATHERINE’S School successfully tackled all the opposition to win the Tag Rugby Festival at Bridport Rugby Club.
Around 100 children from nine West Dorset schools competed in a close competition where each team played eight games, receiving two points for a win and one for a draw.
Symondsbury, Salway Ash and St. Catherine’s finished with 13 points but Salway Ash were eliminated having scored fewer tries.
That produced a final between Symondsbury and St Catherine’s which turned out to be the match of the festival, with St. Catherine’s taking the winners’ medals six tries to four.
The player of the tournament award went to Lulu Gale of Parrett and Axe for her speed, good handling of the rugby ball and overall support of her team members.
This was the fourth time in a row that St. Catherine’s were winners, while Lyme Regis-based Mrs. Ethelston’s, who hold the record of five consecutive victories, struggled in the league rounds.
