LYME Regis have confirmed their East Devon Senior Cup clash with Lapford will be staged at Axe Valley Academy’s 3G pitch on Saturday (11.30am).

The Seasiders had been drawn at home for the quarter-final tie, however their Davey Fort pitch is still suffering from heavy rainfall.

Lyme are keen to play after going almost a month without a fixture – their last being a 4-1 loss at Upottery.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Seasiders’ boss Gerard Hitchcock said: “We came to the conclusion that it wasn’t going to happen (at home) this week.

“We had (Axe Valley) provisionally booked and the rain’s come – game over.

“We kick-off at 11.30 to make sure we get a game in. It’s a cup game and we want to get it done and dusted.”

On the quarter-final, Hitchcock conceded both teams might be “ring-rusty” after a weather-affected start to the year.

“They’ll be just like us – ring-rusty – having had a fair few weeks off.

“I don’t think anyone’s played for the last couple of weeks. Everyone’s going to be in a similar position, but everyone’s been keeping themselves ticking over training and gyming.

“They’ll be fit enough but there’s a difference between being fit and playing football, particularly on 3G because it’s like playing 11-a-side five-a-side. It’s fast and never seems to let up.

“It will just be good to get a game and yes, it would be good to win it.”

Lyme Regis have a fully-fit squad to choose from.
