WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley hopes Andy Robinson’s successful ankle operation will “put to bed” the midfielder’s ongoing injury woe.

Robinson has not played since October 5 in the 4-1 victory over St Albans, when a poor late tackle forced the Terras’ marquee summer signing off the field.

Weymouth sent Robinson, who had suspected bone bruising, to a specialist and have eventually been forced to book in the former Southampton and Bolton man for surgery.

Robinson’s absence, which had already extended over three months, will now protract further – although Molesley is hopeful the injury has now been taken care of.

He told Echosport: “He was a day patient, so he’s had his ankle cleaned out.

“We’re hoping that will put to bed what has been a very frustrating time for him and us as a club.

“He was our marquee signing and has been a big player for us. If we can get him back before the end of the season that will be a huge lift and a confidence boost to the group.

“He’s an experienced, very good player. He went under the knife (on Tuesday) and only time will tell over the next few weeks how successful that operation’s been.

“Hopefully this is the final stage of his injury and we can put that behind him and crack on with the rest of the season.”

Molesley also offered an update on Jack Hoey’s recovery from a broken arm.

“Jack is seeing a specialist so fingers crossed he might be able to get involved with some contact training,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to hopefully getting the all clear that he will be able to step up his recovery, which will be another boost for us.

“We see a real talent in that kid and we feel he’s got goals in him as well. Hopefully he’s nearing a return.”
