BRIDPORT Primary School and Parrett and Axe secured delightful doubles in the first area cross country meeting of 2020 at Colfox Academy.

Bridport’s youngsters took victory in both the overall team and overall B team categories, ahead of Salway Ash in second and Burton Bradstock in third.

Parrett and Axe then claimed both overall team titles in the Year 3 and 4 boys events.

The meeting attracted record numbers of participants and spectators and took place in beautiful sunshine with conditions heavy underfoot.

Due to the increased numbers in recent years the mixed Year 3 and 4 race was changed to separate boys and girls and both races attracted over 100 participants.

The Year 3 and 4 girls race was won by the defending champion, Tilly Lu Winters O’Brien from St Catherine’s, followed by Anna Wheeler of Parrett and Axe in second and Salway Ash’s Phoebe Powell in third place.

St Catherine’s edged the team result by a single points, amassing 33, with Parrett and Axe in second and Salway Ash in third with 40.

The trophy for the best performing B team went to Parrett and Axe.

In the Year 3 and 4 boys’ race defending champion from St Catherines, Harry Elliott, took victory when holding off the challenge from St Catherine’s Oscar Stephens and Finlay David of Parrett and Axe.

This time Parrett and Axe took first place with 21 points ahead of St Catherine’s in second with 27 and Salway Ash with 65.

Once again the trophy for the best performing B team also went to Parrett and Axe.

Parrett and Axe won the shield presented to the lowest-scoring combined total for both boys and girls.

The Year 5 and 6 girls’ race was contested by 70 athletes and the winner was last year’s runner-up, Maisie Pitcher from Salway Ash. Pitcher was pushed all the way by Holly Symes of Bridport Primary in second and Thorners’ Lyra Webb in third.

In the final race, Jack March led from the start and never looked back to take first place ahead of Parrett & Axe’s Owen Kemp and Bridport St Mary’s Riley Manning in third.

St Catherine’s were victorious in the team result with Salway Ash in second and Bridport Primary in third. Bridport Primary took first place in the B team competition once again.
