WAYTOWN HOUNDS 5

SOUTH PETHERTON RES 2

WAYTOWN Hounds mounted a superb comeback from 2-0 down to defeat South Petherton Reserves 5-2 in their Perry Street & District League Division One clash.

The scoreline may suggest an easy match for he Hounds, however that was not the case.

Waytown began on the back foot and were soon 2-0 down. Both goals conceded were soft and the Hounds seemed all at sea from the off.

However, a fine finish from Jon Legg just before half-time saw Waytown halve the deficit at 2-1.

Assistant-manager Mike Long ripped into the players after a very poor 45 minutes.

Either those words motivated the Hounds or Legg’s goal bought some calm, but the second half saw Waytown settle and play some great football in tough conditions.

Another fine finish from Legg and goals from Zak Hawker, Kieran Mulhall and Tom Rutland saw the game finish 5-2, while Legg missed a hat-trick chance from the spot.

Hounds' boss Joe Carter said: “We were shocking for 45. I’ll hold my hand up for that. We turned up early, sadly I’d left the spare kit at home! So we missed the warm up and our preparations went out the window after I realised we had a kit clash. I think that was reflected in our first half display.

“Really pleased with our second half and a return to form after such a sloppy opening 45."

Waytown now face Hawkchurch at Tatworth on Saturday in the Perry Street & District League Division One Cup final (1pm).

Carter said: "(The) final on the 28th will be a tough game, we need to ensure we are on the money from minute one.

“I’ll also keep a spare kit in the car just in case!"
