SHERBORNE TOWN RES 1

BALTI Sports collected a much-needed 5-1 victory over bottom side Sherborne Town Reserves in their Dorset Premier League clash at Weymouth College.

Marco Nott’s men had lost their past three matches in all competitions and this victory puts the Weymouth-based side’s league campaign back on track.

Home form has typically been a strong point for Balti and the result maintains their unbeaten league record on home soil.

With Nott in goal, Chris Hicks oversaw matters from the touchline and watched on as Balti scored within two minutes as Sammy Nichols controlled and slotted into the top corner from 18 yards.

The Zebras capitalised as Balti switched off from a cross, allowing Scott Martin to turn inside the box and flash a shot past Nott for 1-1.

Balti missed two good chances prior to going 2-1 up through a spectacular backheeled own goal as Sherborne got themselves in a tangle from a Charlie Kenderdine delivery.

Balti dominated in the second half and sub Ricky Lane’s cross was tapped home by the outstanding Jack Drummond, who ran the Zebras’ back four ragged all afternoon.

Nichols then went through one-on-one and squared for Ricky Lane to sweep home into an empty net before Nichols provided once more, this time for sub Sean Zima who controlled and blasted in Balti’s fifth.

Speaking to Echosport, Nott said: “It was a massive win for us for confidence, a big three points – bigger than what it would be normally.

“Hopefully we’ve woken up now and we can get back on track.

“At the start of the game it wasn’t looking that way but we’ve stripped it back. We attack very well normally and defensively we’ve always been a bit leaky.

“We overcomplicated it last week with five at the back with the same outcome. We thought we might as well go and do what we do best – go forward and attack.

“We went back to that and it certainly paid off, we created a lot more chances and were a lot more clinical than what we have been.

“You might as well live by the sword, die by the sword, so to speak.”

Nott also praised his substitutes and Drummond, adding: “Jack’s a young lad and has given the chance and he took it really well – fair play to him.

“Ricky and Sean, when they came on they changed the game and gave us a bit more quality with fresher legs.”

Elsewhere, Balti Sports Reserves are through to the Dorset Intermediate Cup semi-finals after a 1-0 win at Piddlehinton United in extra-time, Craig Mewton grabbing the winner.

Balti: M Nott, O’Shaughnessy, S Walker, Anderson, Curran, Devaney, McClements, Nichols, Kenderdine (Lane 60), Drummond (Burton 80), Dovell (Zima 65). Sub not used: Stavrianos.
