BRIDPORT EVOLUTION 57

SOUTHBOURNE SWAMP DONKEYS 55

BRIDPORT Evolution eventually showed their class to beat Southborne Swamp Donkeys in a closely-fought battle at Beaminster Sports Hall.

The first quarter was a scrappy affair with both teams finding it difficult to get into any sort of rhythm with lots of unforced errors.

Luckily for Evo, Tom White was in top shooting form and the first quarter finished 20-14 in Bridport’s favour.

Bridport did not come out of the blocks in the second quarter with the Donkeys scoring 19 points with no reply for a 33-20 lead.

However, at the end of the quarter, Craig Sorrell sunk two three-pointers but Evo still trailed at half-time.

In the third quarter, Canham and Sorrell stepped it up with some aggressive play to secure some points on the board. Evo got back to within six points setting up an exciting finale.

Evo continued where they left off in the third with some fantastic defense and quick breaks.

The increase in intensity from the whole team was too much for the Donkeys to handle while Eric Robertshaw showed nerves of steel scoring five free-throws in a row.

Evo were up by two going into the closing minute with Donkeys on the attack but up stepped Jack Trivett with a fantastic block ensuring the ball returned to the hosts.

With 1.7 seconds to go, the Donkeys needed two to tie and three to win. Evo stayed strong on their players and the forced shot missed, meaning Evo saw out the game to pick up their fourth victory of the season.

Evo travel to BG Suns for their next game on Thursday, December 5.

Scorers: Sorrell 20 (MVP), White 10, Canham 10, Robertshaw 9, Gray 4, Trivett 2, Rich 2.
