Football: Bridport will look to 'kickstart' their season away at Westbury United

The Bees travel to Westbury, who lie seventh in the table, for a Toolstation Western League clash tonight after narrowly losing to Roman Glass 2-1, despite conceding 18 goals in their previous two matches before that.

Jamie Manley told Echosport: “It is not going to be easy. Westbury are a decent side.

“They won 6-2 at the weekend and have some decent players. But if we put in a performance like we did against Roman Glass, we will have a chance.

“We are looking forward to it. We are missing some lads who have got to work, and when you play like we did against Roman you would like to keep that same squad.

“We will have to jiggle it around a little bit, but hopefully we can take some points.”

Bridport’s last match was called off, meaning The Bees couldn’t gather momentum after their promising performance.

“It was disappointing, especially after how well we played against Roman. We were obviously looking to kick on from that and put in a good performance. The lads were really up for the game.”

Manley’s side currently languish in second bottom position in the league and will go into their match with Westbury as underdogs.

The Bridport manager commented: “They have some experienced players, some lads who have played Southern League football. They will be dangerous.

“It’s about how we turn up on the day. Last week is something to build on.

“We created quite a few chances (last week) and if we can take them and tighten up at the back then we will be there or thereabouts.

“We are a work in progress at the minute. When you take over a side without having a full pre-season it is always going to be hard.

“The lads are gradually buying into what we want, and it is all about how hard we work.

“We will have a game plan to hopefully stay tight all over the pitch and if we take our chances, we will have a chance.

“They are no mugs and we know it is not going to be easy.”
