FORTY men braved the wind and rain on Sunday to play Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club’s Walker Cup – a pairs Flag competition off half combined handicap, writes Peter Crowter.

The winners were Steve Taylor (19) and Roger Galpin (17) who holed out on the 17th.

Close on their heels, the second pair, Richard Hansford (25) and Pat Hart (9) finished on the 17th green.

VETERANS’ SECTION

THE Stableford competition on Thursday incorporated the Over-70s’ Cup and there were 41 entrants, 27 qualifying for the cup.

Peter Marshall (9) bagged the silverware with a score of 41 points and the runner-up was Karl Rogers (21) with 38 points.

Ray Southcombe (13) and Ian Perry (24) followed both, scoring 37 points with the former placed third after countback.

The winner of the 14 non-qualifying youngsters group was George Brown (12) scoring 38 points.

Alan Scutt (21) and Steve Walters (28) both came in with 37 points to take second and third place in that order after countback.

LADIES’ SECTION

TOSHIKO Rickets (15) had a convincing win in the Granny Cup coming in with 34 points, writes Avril Brown.

In second place was Lyn Jessop (28) after notching 33 points.

Meanwhile, in a Stableford competition played, Pat Baldwin (30) was victorious, winning with 33 points.

The runner-up was Nicky Stone (5) with 32 points.
