BRIDPORT RESERVES 4

CORFE CASTLE 2

BRIDPORT Reserves collected their third victory of the Dorset Premier League season with a 4-2 win over Corfe Castle at St Mary’s Field.

Shaun Annetts’ Bees set the tone as early as 57 seconds when captain Dan Baggs floated a beautiful ball to Robin Jones who drove into box, beat his man and drilled a low finish home.

Bridport settled quickly after the goal and midfielder Riley Weedon proved instrumental in orchestrating Bridport’s attacking play.

Despite the hosts’ endeavours, Corfe almost equalised on 34 minutes only to blast a good chance over Jordon Scadding’s crossbar.

However, Corfe did level almost immediately after half-time when the Bridport defence switched off, allowing Josh Baker to collect a simple ball and beat Scadding.

Chances were at a premium until Baker doubled his tally with another fine finish as Bridport fell 2-1 behind after 65 minutes.

Bridport threw on Anthony Carlile and Finn Cooper for the final 15 minutes and the Bees started to create several chances.

Gilt-edged opportunities fell to Weedon, Jones and Cooper but the trio could not find an equaliser.

However, a moment of controversy changed the game on 85 minutes as Bridport were awarded a soft corner from which Cooper squared to Jones for 2-2.

Bridport sensed a triumph and duly pulled into a 3-2 lead when Jones lashed home inside the box to complete his hat-trick in injury-time.

As Corfe sent numbers upfield in search of an equaliser, Bridport caught them on the break following Ryan Gall’s clearance as Josh Hunter ran from inside his own half before rounding the Corfe keeper to score in the 97th minute.

Annetts said: “It was an entertaining game. I think Corfe would agree that we deserved to win but they will feel disappointed that our equalising goal came from a mistake from the officials, who gave the corner.

“I did feel sorry for Corfe a little bit, but it was a good game and we’re pleased to get the three points.

“It was Robin’s first game for two weeks and nice for him to get a hat-trick.”

Annetts’ men host Gillingham on Saturday (3pm).
