PORTLAND RED TRIANGLE 295-7 (20pts) beat HAMWORTHY RECREATION 175 (7pts) by 120 runs

PORTLAND Red Triangle signed off their County Division One season with a stunning 120-run win over last season’s runners-up Hamworthy Rec at Reforne.

Rain shortened the clash to 41 overs a side but the phenomenal scoring power at the top of Triangle’s order was again in full flight.

Chris Leake and Chris Theakstone opened up with a magnificent 144-run stand for the first wicket, crashing the Rec bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Leake (104) did the majority of the damage, notching his second century of the season and taking his tally to 770 this year, having hit 17 fours and two sixes in this innings.

Theakstone (60) later perished to Matt Gordon (2-30) but Portland piled on the misery for Rec as Tim Forshaw (41), Ollie Whisker and Simon Proffitt (both 21) all took a liking to the away attack.

Portland eventually closed on 295-7 having scored well above seven runs an over.

In reply, Rec were up against the formidable opening pair of Proffitt (1-25) and New Zealander Sam Mihell (4-34), the latter taking season’s best figures in his final game for the club.

Only Alex Peel (62) and Toby Berry (36) resisted as Rec were bowled out for 175.
