ANDREW McDermott claimed his maiden Weymouth ADC Singles Knockout title after seeing off the rest of the field.
The return of the ADC League singles threw up some great first-round fixtures, with the pick of the round being Mel Burton versus McDermott, with the latter going on to claim a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
The shock of the first round came when Championship player Eddie Knell defeated the Premier League’s Drew Tweedy 3-2.
There were straight forward 3-0 victories for Stewart and Andy Masters over Arnie Quinn and Shaun Lampard respectively, with Trevor Honnor and Terry Tucker picking up 3-1 victories.
Simon Churchill edged a close contest with Bazza Stratford 3-2 to claim the final quarter-final spot.
The last-eight ties saw some excellent matches with arguably the match of the night coming from Stewart Masters and Honnor, the former winning 4-3 hitting along the way a 132 finish and a 136 finish which was part of a 12-dart leg for Masters.
In the other ties, Mark Samways continued his form coming from behind to beat Andy Masters 4-3, Andy’s heavy scoring not enough to battle against Samways excellent finishing which included a 101 checkout.
Tucker defeated young Knell 4-0 to advance to the semi-finals, with McDermott claiming a 4-1 victory over Simon Churchill which he finished the match with a 144 checkout, whilst Simon Churchill was sat on 66 after 12 darts.
The semi-finals saw play get even better as Stewart Masters won through to the final by defeating Samways 5-3, Stewart’s heavy scoring helping along the way.
The other semi-final, was a more one-sided affair, with McDermott rattling five straight legs to defeat Tucker 5-0 to meet good friend Stewart Masters in the final.
The final being best of 11 saw both players scoring well with McDermott opening up a 3-1 lead and looking like he was going to run away with it, but Stewart carried on his form through the night and battled to 5-4 down to which McDermott managed to hold his nerve to sync double 10 and seal a 6-4 victory and claim the trophy.
Earlier in the night, there were four catch-up games in the league, contested with Stewart Masters picking up a 3-1 victory over Drew Tweedy and sharing the spoils 2-2 with Simon Churchill, Churchill’s other fixture also ended in a 2-2 draw with Mark Samways. The final game saw Drew Tweedy a 4-0 winner over Shaun Lampard.
The league season is now into its home stretch with the final set of fixtures to be played starting from September 2.
