BLANDFORD emerged victorious as Bridport held their second Tens Tournament at the Brewery Ground.

Bridport contested the competition against four visiting sides – Crewkerne, Blandford, Weymouth and Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew.

Unfortunately, there were two late withdrawals and a serious ankle injury sustained by a Weymouth player, requiring a trip to hospital by air ambulance, meant that only one pitch could be used.

As a result, it was decided that all teams would play each other in a league format with Blandford winning all their four games and the trophy.

All the teams brought large squads and Bridport had 20 players, giving senior debuts to a large number of colts.

Bridport played very well against some strong opposition and whilst they did not prevail in any of the games, they ran Crewkerne and Wheatsheaf very close losing by just two points in each game. The whole Bridport squad felt that the overall performance was very encouraging and they have a couple of warm-up games before the Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts Two South league season starts on Saturday, September 14.

After the matches had finished, chairman Julian Hussey presented the Blandford captain with the inaugural trophy for what will become the Bridport Carnival Tens Tournament to be held on the same date next year.

All the teams enjoyed themselves and have promised to return next year. The club are sure that the success this year will lead to a greater attendance in the future.

Finally, all those present wish a speedy recovery to the injured Weymouth player.
