WEYMOUTH will aid their second string ahead of the Seasiders’ bid to seal the County Division Six title.

Weymouth’s first team are due to travel to Compton House today (1.30pm) with the County Division One match effectively a dead rubber, Weymouth well clear of relegation in fourth and House 38 points adrift of leaders Cattistock with three games remaining.

Meanwhile, the Seasiders’ seconds, led by captain Tom Reed, need to outscore Puddletown Seconds by at least eight points, beating Lytchett in the process, to seal the title this weekend.

Speaking to Echosport, Weymouth captain Harry Mitchell revealed a first-team debut would be given to promising young seamer Ben Hunter, with Tim Guyett and James Almond dropping down to boost the seconds.

He said: “We’re going to take Ben, which is a good thing for the first team because he’s got a lot of potential to be pretty good for the firsts.

“I said to Tom it would be a great week to get Ben in, obviously because he wanted Tim (and Almond) to go down and strengthen them up.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for (Hunter) to play the last few games of the season.

“He’s been bowling pretty well in the nets and made some of our batters in the club look pretty average, which is a really good sign. He’s a really good prospect.”
