COLFOX student Katie Evans ran superbly at the English Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham, setting two personal bests on her way to fifth in the under-15 girls’ 200m final.

Evans, a member of Dorchester Athletics Association, had obtained the entry standards for both the 100m and the 200m but opted to represent Dorset in her favourite event, the 200m sprint.

The Dorchester athlete made it through the heats and earned a place in the final, with a new personal best time of 25.53secs.

In the final, Evans lowered her best mark by 0.08secs to gain a national standard time of 25.45secs.

She now holds both her school and club records for her age category, the title of county champion for the 100m and 200m sprints and South West Schools champion for the 200m.

In the South West competition, Evans ran a personal best (PB) of 25.69secs, meaning she has now lowered her mark by a further 0.24 seconds after her exploits in Birmingham.

At the same meeting, Evans ran 12.49secs to post another personal best in the 100m, where she claimed second.

Evans is currently ranked first in the south west, 17th in the UK for the 200m, and is trained by Dean Exton, sprint coach for Dorchester AA.

The duo are now preparing for the England under-17 and under-15 Age Group Championships on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1 in Bedford.
