BRIDPORT boss Rich Robson says the only way his side will improve at the level they are at is by carrying on playing teams in leagues around their tier as they prepare to travel to Bashley today (3pm).

Bridport are in Step Five of non-League football, and have so far seen pre-season friendlies against Sherborne, who are one league lower, and Portland United, who are in an equivalent league, and in the same league as Bashley.

The Bees then face Hythe & Dibden, a Step Six team, before facing another one of Portland’s league rival in the form of Christchurch.

Robson told Echosport: “We want to keep testing at this level, we are going to be playing at this level so the only way we are going to get better is to keep practising at this level, so that is what we are going to keep doing.

“Right through, Hythe & Dibden are a step lower but still around this sort of level and then on to our last one on the 27th as well.”

Last time out, Bridport were beaten 4-1 by Portland United, with Tom Richardson scoring the first goal to hand the Bees the lead, before Portland came back strongly with four goals.
