THE Wey Valley Academy celebrated achieving ‘School of Tennis’ status after a successful bid to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

During the school’s launch day all students within the school had the opportunity to play competitive or social tennis either within PE lessons, break and lunchtime.

The funding the school receives from the LTA will go towards developing and improving the profile and provision of tennis for the students in Wey Valley, local schools and the wider community.

Wey Valley’s Stuart Heath explained Wey Valley will “drive” tennis participation:

He said: “Already we have started improving tennis equipment, teacher training and using qualified coaches for Aegon league team training and extra-curricular clubs as well as selecting and training a group of Year Eight students to act as tennis ambassadors to help drive tennis participation and excellence in the future.”
