DAVE Howat’s Captain’s Weekend was a very successful event and raised £4,000 for the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust and Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club would like to thank all those involved.

The first event was the Mixed Golden Oldies Stableford for players who have attained four score years.

The winner was Robert Froy (27) with 41 points.

Runner-up was Roy Vickery (18) with 39 and in third place was Keith Hicks (20), scoring 35 points.

Keith’s wife Maureen (34) was the only lady to join the 12 men and she scored 27 points.

Next day was the Captain’s Individual Stableford.

This was a mixed competition and attracted 79 entrants.

The winner was Ashley Clarke (22) scoring 41 points.

Next it was a lady who showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels and Fiona Lomax (29) with 38 points took the runner-up spot after countback with third-placed Roy Gill (13), also with 38.

Sunday’s event was the Men’s Chorley Cup, also a Stableford and this also attracted 79 starters.

Top scorers were Taff Golding in Division Two and Will Turner in Division Three and they decided to share the honours.

The Division One winner was Barry O’Mahoney with 41 points.

CHORLEY CUP RESULTS

Division One: 1 Barry O’Mahoney (7) 41points, 2 (acb) Robert Smith (12) 40, 3 (acb) Marc Harwood (9) 40.

Division Two: 1 Taff Golding (12) 42 points, 2 Mike Chivers (15) 38, 3 Marlon Donovan (15)37.

Division Three: 1 Will Turner (20) 42 points, 2 (acb) Stuart Gay (21) 41, 3 Tony Lovelace (18) 41.

Spike Spiller (16) won the Midweek Stableford with 41 points with Grant Gerrard (11) runner-up.

Ladies’ Section

CAPTAIN Nicky Stone won the President’s Shield with a very convincing 38 points, writes Avril Brown.

In second place, with another tremendous score, was Vivienne Gill (30) on 37 points, ahead of Julie Woodroffe (23) scoring 36.

It was very good turnout of 23 playing ladies, and the day was rounded off with a cream tea.
