WEYMOUTH Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters admits the Midland and Southern Development League clash with Isle of Wight Wizards will be “really hard”.

However, Peters has witnessed the Wizards’ roster weaken since their superb opening 17-16 win over Reading in late April.

Speaking to Echosport, Peters remained respectful of the improved level of the Wizards’ riders, particularly Morgan Williams.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough one. They’re on their home track and know how to ride it.

“There’s certain riders who’ve really upped their games like Morgan Williams, who’s got a damn sight better.

“It’ll be really hard but they haven’t got the sort of strength they had in their first meeting against Reading.

“So they are a bit weaker but are still very strong.”

Wildcats are still chasing an elusive first win of the season, but have not been blown away in any contest – a fact that gives Peters cause for optimism.

“We’ve managed to keep it close,” Peters said. “There’s been some heat wins and James Laker at the start was unbeaten in his races. He’s only lost one out of all his heats. He’s going really well.

“Sam (Peters) has been as expected, same as Cesca (Kirtley-Paine). Jacob (Clouting) has only ridden one meeting and there was one race where he broke down where we would’ve won that meeting.

“So a little bit unfortunate but seeing James Jessop get his first heat win was great to see – he’s bouncing off the walls.

“Andy (Palmer) has only ridden the one meeting and has fallen a couple of times. It’s something we can help him work on.

“But there’s a great team spirit. They all want to learn and ride, we’re impressed with them.”
