BRIDPORT & West Dorset Golf Club held its Men’s Club Championship on Sunday.

Played over two rounds there are three different cups competed for.

First and foremost, the men’s Scratch Cup and the winner was Lewis Craddock scoring 80 and 74 =154.

Steve Crabb having been more consistent over the two rounds took second place with 77 and 78 = 155.

Ed Cary was third carding 75 and 81 = 156.

Next up was the Fraser Cup, also gross scores for players over 14 handicap.

In first place was Terry Cleal (88 and 87 = 175).

Runner-up was Colin Hore (85 and 91=176), while in third was Taff Golding (85 and 93 = 178).

Lastly, the Pete Ridler Cup was for best nett scores.

First was Steve Crabb (69 and 70 = 139), with Terry Cleal (71 and 70 = 141) in second.

Third was Grant Gerrard (70 and 72 = 142).

The Midweek Medal was won by Mark Kershaw scoring 95-26=69 earning him a one-shot handicap cut.

Runner-up was Ben Ashton with 83-12=71.

Veterans’ Section

THE Thursday competition was a self-entry Stableford and there were 36 starters.

Two players came in with 37 points and that was Ian Thacker (16) and Alan Newnham (18) and after countback Thacker was placed first and Newnham finished runner-up.

Following them were Chris Luckraft (19), Marcus Beresford (15) and Peter Mowat (15) who all scored 35 points and on countback were placed in that order.

The vets played two home matches last week, one versus Clevedon and the other versus Dorset GCC and Bridport won both matches 4-2.

Ladies’ Section

JANE White (27) won the Midsummer Madness Stableford competition with a fantastic score of 35 points leading a field of 16 players, writes Avril Brown.

This was a great result given the early morning 7am shotgun start.
