THE Sir John Colfox Academy took 26 athletes to the Dorset Schools County Athletics Championships at Kings Park Bournemouth and had the most successful day ever as a school, with six county champions and three runners up.

The star of the whole event was Katie Evans who had already been crowned double county champion in the Dorset Club County Championships a few weeks earlier, and this time around put in two incredible performances in the 100m and 200m.

In the 100m she cruised to victory in 12.6 seconds and in the 200m she set a new county record in 25.8 seconds to be crowned double county champion for the second time in a few weeks.

Maisy Herbert in year seven took gold in the javelin and broke a school record with Alf Parkman achieving silver in the boys’ event.

Jonny Styrin ran the 1,500m from the front and never gave up the lead, winning in 5.05, just one second outside a school record that has stood since 1991.

His fellow year seven student Kieran Coombs was involved in a great race and was just pipped at the finish line to silver in the 800m.

Rio Turner in year eight took gold in the triple jump with year nine pupil Zara English taking gold in the hammer for the second consecutive year and setting a new school record. Olivia Willmore, competing in her seventh straight county championship, took gold in the 400 hurdles.

Year 11 pupil Maddy Herbert ran a superb 300m and was just pipped into silver with 20m to go.
