STEVE Fowles took the spoils with a dab and a plaice in the first open match run by West Bay Sea Angling Club.

Dave Keel finished just behind with a smoothhound, ahead of Steve Harwood in third.

There were 10 anglers that signed on and were greeted with fine fishing conditions all day, but unfortunately the fish had other ideas and fishing was poor to say the least.

Only six out of 10 anglers weighed in fish. Plaice, dab, mackerel, black bream, pollack and smoothound all registered.

The organisers would like to thank Durbeyfield House for the use of their facilities.

Results: Steve Fowles, dab and a plaice total 54 per cent, Dave Keel, smoothhound total 47% and Steve Harwood, mackerel, bream, total 43 per cent. Best flat fish, Steve Fowles dab 36 per cent; Best round fish Dave Keel smoothhound 47 per cent.
