THERE was success for the seniors as Weymouth hosted a 12-man team from Yeovil on a damp but enjoyable day, with the home team winning the match 4 and 2.
Yeovil’s Jeff Barrs won a bottle of wine for being closest-to-the-pin on the tricky fifth hole.
Barrs last played at Weymouth 26 years ago and asked where had all the trees come from.
Following the match, chef Leigh Picton of the club’s Hardy View Restaurant offered the players a choice of sea bass or one of his hand-made ‘signature’ meat pies with all the trimmings.
Yeovil will host Weymouth on Friday, August 2 when the Weymouth men will find it difficult to repeat their success on what is a very different course to theirs.
