TED Stordy (12) and Mike Chivers (15) carded 47 points to claim victory in Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club men’s Sunday competition, the Mathews Cup, a 4BBB.

Seventeen teams scored 40 points or more and the next two teams both came in with 46 points and after count-back George Brown (12) and Tony King (16) were awarded the runner-up spot nudging Matt Powne (24) and Phil Emmerson (25) into third position.

Ben Ashton (12) won the Midweek Stableford with 41 points followed by Ted Stordy (12) scoring 39 points.

The third round of The Holmes Cup was the veteran’s Thursday competition and there were 42 starters, but there was a considerable margin between the scores in the two divisions, the best score in Division Two being equalled by the man in 11th place in Division One.

Ray Southcombe notched 82-14=68 topping Division One followed by Tony Burt who was placed second after count-back with 86-15=71.

Coming third, also after count-back, was George Brown with 83-12=71.

The best score in Division Two was 97-22=75 carded by Lawrence Turner, while Glyn Peach took second place with 107-30=77.

The third spot was bagged by Peter Davies after count-back scoring 101-23=78.

Ladies’ Section

Liz Thompson (22) claimed a resounding victory with an excellent score of 34 points in the Loving Cup competition in the ladies’ section, writes Avril Brown.

The runner-up was Sue Winkle (29) with 30 points.

Meanwhile, the Harding Plaque competition, for the Divison B section, was played and Carole Hedley (36) took top spot coming first, winning with a excellent score of 35 points. Sue Pakes (36) came second carding 33 confirming their potential to excel.
