WEYMOUTH vice-captain Simon Browne has challenged the Seasiders to “do the three basics” well in order to defeat unbeaten County Division One leaders Cattistock tomorrow (1.30pm).

Browne is standing in for unavailable skipper Harry Mitchell but is no stranger to the captaincy having led Weymouth in Division One as recently as 2017.

Last time out, Weymouth beat Marnhull by 116 runs to secure their first victory of 2019, while Cattistock thumped Swanage by 113 runs.

Browne said: “They’re top of the league, they’re going pretty well, but we’re on the back of our first win.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on our own performance and make sure we bat, bowl and field well. At the end of the day, if they score more runs than us and beat us, so be it.

“Actually, we’ve got every chance if we play to our ability – we’ve got match-winners in the side. People like John Wilson and Kieron Womble can score runs, Matty Lawes, myself and Tim Guyett’s coming into the side with lots of runs behind him in the second team.

“So if we do the three basics well, we’ll see where it gets us and hopefully we’ll give them a good game.”

In Weymouth’s visit to Cattistock two years ago the Seasiders reduced the hosts to 54-8 on their way to a 37-run victory.

Browne said: “The side’s not a million miles different from that (match) so we’ll go up there with a positive attitude and see what they’re all about. Not many sides go through the whole season unbeaten.”

Weymouth are without Mitchell and Neil Walton but Guyett and Sahil Dalvi replace them.

Weymouth: Webb, Wilson, Womble, M Lawes, Browne, Guyett, J Sapsworth, Beals, Urumancheri, Puckett, Dalvi.
