PUDDLETOWN cricket club chairman David Stevens insists the atmosphere has ‘never been better’ around the club, as the final preparations are being made for the fast approaching season.

Puddletown’s Saturday first team, captained again this season by Adam Barrett, are looking forward to the challenge of Dorset Division Two cricket this year, after gaining promotion from Division Three last season.

When asked about his thoughts for this season, Barrett was under no illusions about the step up in quality, but maintains he has faith in his side to perform well again.

Barrett said: “Confidence is still high from last season, and with some decent nets over the winter we appear to be shaping up well again.”

Puddletown are boosted by the availability of Dorchester Town’s Tom Blair, who is available for the first game of the season away to Blandford.

As well as the first team, Puddletown have also entered a second weekend side this season, who will be playing in Dorset Division Six.

This is the first time Puddletown have entered two teams into the Saturday league, which Stevens believes is a credit to the progress the club is making.

Barrett said: “We have been targeting a second Saturday side for a few years now, as it provides an excellent opportunity for younger players in the club to develop.

“It also creates the opportunity for players to play in a less competitive environment, embracing the family club culture we are striving to create”

n In line with the family club ethos, Puddletown will again be running the highly successful all-stars programme this summer, with sessions starting on Friday, May 10 and running right through until Friday, June 28.
