AFTER 18 gruelling weeks of top tungsten action one of 12 will players be crowned the new champion at the ADC finals night at Weymouth Angling Society on Saturday (7pm).

A strong field, including defending champion Sam Ward, will compete in a blind draw done on the night and every round up until the final.

Runaway league leader Andrew McDermott aims to emulate the success of Ward and previous winner Danny Aplin and get his name on the ADC trophy.

Andy Masters and, injury permitting, Mark Samways will be in the running for a deep run while Mel Burton’s relentless high scoring could see him better his 2018 semi-final run.

A strong finish from Simon Churchill will give him an outside chance while other super league players in Paul Dormer, Arnie Quinn and Stewart Masters know they can beat any of the other finalists.

An exceptional unbeaten run of 12 games from Trevor Honnor midway through the season after returning from a sprained wrist sets him in good stead, while Drew Tweedy at points throughout the season was unplayable and on his day would out score any opponent.

Organiser Paul Paice said: “When you look at the quality that’s going to be playing on the night it’s guaranteed to be a top night of darts. This is why we have the blind draw format so that it’s literally anyone’s title to win and any one of the 12 can win it.

“Over 260 180s have been hit plus two ‘big fish’ checkouts of 170 which just shows some of the standards the players are reaching.”

All spectators are welcome to attend finals night.
