AARON Chambers took first in West Bay Sea Angling Club’s junior competition on the East Pier.

Three junior members turned up to fish on the rescheduled date after last week’s postponement, as Robbie Hall took second with Eden Lynham third.

Competitors fished a falling tide in a slow start before Chambers decided to start the year off with a sizeable flounder of 485 grams.

Hall, in second, then decided to join in the fun by catching the second flounder and again with a sizeable weight of 217 grams.

Lynham joined in with a plaice of 228 grams, one centimetre short of being a sizeable fish.

The species caught on the day were plaice and flounder.

Results: Aaron Chambers 485g, Robbie Hall 217g, Eden Lynham 228g (non-sizeable weight).

Sponsors: Simon Homewood and Karen Hall.

Elsewhere for the club, at their latest match in Lyme Regis, Tony Colls took victory.

All but one angler chose to fish Monmouth beach, with dogfish the main species caught.

Results: Most fish points: Tony Colls 12pts; Second best fish: Ken Martin dogfish 65cms; Third most species (3) Jim Leighton – dogfish, pout and 5b rockling.

Species caught: Dogfish, pouting, 5b and shore rockling, undersize bull huss and conger.

*Non-members can fish up to two junior matches per year before having to join the club.
