BRIDPORT boss Adam Fricker confessed the re-signing of Ed Butcher from Street has felt like luring a new player to St Mary’s Field.

Butcher has agreed a permanent deal with the Bees, who allowed the dazzling winger to chase a Southern League dream with the newly-promoted Cobblers last summer.

And Bridport’s newest acquisition, who bagged six league goals for Street, responded in fine style by hitting a brace during Saturday’s 3-2 win over Roman Glass St George.

Speaking to Echosport, Fricker admitted he had urged Butcher to concentrate on returning to his lethal best.

He said: “He looked fresh – it surprised me because he’s not had a lot of football at Street. He’s done well, every opportunity he’s had, he’s taken. He’s one of their top goalscorers this season.

“All I said to him is just ‘get your head down and concentrate on playing football’. We’ve still got 14, possibly 15, games left. We’ve got plenty of football for him to have an impact on.”

When asked if securing Butcher felt like a new signing, Fricker said: “Absolutely. He’s got exceptional pace and a cracking left foot.

“He’s going to be a massive addition because he just gives us a different dimension to how we want to set up. If things aren’t going your way, he will pop up and create something for you.

“We’re delighted to have him back and he’ll just fit straight back in.”
