MARK Molesley admitted it felt like a big win as his Weymouth side claimed a 2-1 win away at Walton Casuals in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Goals from Ben Thomson and Brandon Goodship secured the victory that ended their three-game winless run in the league.

The triumph also put the Terras back up to second in the table, and allowed Weymouth to take advantage of league rivals Met Police and Salisbury playing out a 2-2 draw.

When asked if it felt like a big win Molesley replied: “Yeah it does, it has obviously been a difficult week, a tough week, a gruelling week.

“Three games away on the spin. Yeah we needed to keep pace, we needed to get the win which added a little bit more pressure because results have not gone quite as well as we would have liked during the week.

“It was a good response from the boys.”

Molesley dismissed any suggestion that the week prior had been a poor week however, which had seen Weymouth concede a late equaliser against the Met Police in a 4-4 draw, before falling 2-1 away at Merthyr Town.

When asked if he felt victory against Walton could be a turning point, Molesley replied: “No I don’t think so.

“Everyone from the outside says it was a poor week, we were obviously disappointed with the results but the performances were good.

“At the Met Police we were punished for any kind of mistake we made, the same as Merthyr, like (against Walton) we made one mistake and we got punished. It was their only shot on goal in the first half.

“We are getting punished for small errors at the moment but the boys don’t give up.

“A lot of people say it has been a bad week with results and yes we know that but the boys always come out fighting and they showed that (against Walton) when people are starting to question them they always react well.”

The win over Walton also saw the return of Sam Sherring to the starting line up for Weymouth, who had been absent for a month, prior to his substitute appearance against the Met Police.

Molesley was full of praise for Sherring’s return, as he said: “We have been slightly unlucky with injuries this year and that has been quite evident. But we don’t moan, we get on with it, we are starting to get people back.

“Sam has had a great season for us.

“He had a great performance, he freed up Jake McCarthy who went back into central midfield so it just shows that we have got options, and when everyone is back fit, we have got a really competitive squad.”

After the match, Weymouth announced that Sherring had his loan from AFC Bournemouth extended until the end of the season.
