A THREE-MAN team of Marc Harwood (9), Brian Austin (22) and Will Turner (22) emerged the winners of a keenly-contested Stableford with 86 points at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club.
The trio defeated 13 other teams, while the top three sides were well ahead of the rest of the field, followed by a seven-point margin to the next in line.
Rob Ormsby (20), Ashley Clarke (24) and Mike Savage (7) plus Rob Smith (16), Matt Powne (28) and Dan Down (27) both accrued 85 points with the former triumvirate declared runners-up after countback.
Veterans’ Section
ON THURSDAY, 48 veterans teed off for a ‘three-clubs-and-a-putter’ Stableford.
As if the handicap of just a few clubs at their disposal wasn’t enough the addition of a strong wind made conditions pretty tricky.
Chris Luckraft (19) topped Division One with the creditable score of 33 points, closely followed by Marcus Beresford (15) scoring 32 points.
In third place was Tony Burt (15) with 31 points.
Scores were not far behind in Division Two where Richard Parry (22) came out in front with 32 points.
Runner-up was Karl Rogers (23), carding 31 points. David Smith (24) was third with 29.
The result of the Winter Shield, a competition played over four rounds during the winter, was winner Roy Gill with 110 points, narrowly edging runner-up John Pacey with 109.
Ladies’ Section
JANUARY’S Joker Stableford competition saw a good turnout, with the winner Sue Winkle (29) scoring 29 points, closely followed in second by Pat Baldwin (29) on 26 and Sue Pakes (38) in third with 25, writes Avril Brown.
Meanwhile, the challenging ‘wedge, wood and putter’ competition was played over the back nine holes in very windy conditions.
A hardy group turned out with the winner, Jane Dowling (31) taking top spot after carding an impressive 14 points.
Anne Follett (36) was second on nine and Sue Winkle (29) came home third with eight.
