TONY Colborne claimed the top score of 39 in the latest stableford competition at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club, writes Peter Crowter.

Among 54 starters, a top score of 38 or 39 points was the winning score in all three divisions.

Division Three's Colborne enjoyed a five-point margin over runner-up Will Turner but the top places in the other two divisions were much closer and in both cases 38 was the leading score.

Steve Crabb won Division One with Dave Smith second scoring 37 points, while in Division Two, four players scored 38 points with Ted Stordy coming out ahead after count-back.

RESULTS: Division One: 1 Steve Crabb (7) 38 points; 2 Dave Smith (9) 37; 3 (acb) Robin Taylor (12) 36. Division Two: 1 (acb) Ted Stordy (13) 38; 2 (acb) Andrew Mcleary (15) 38; 3 (acb) Grant Rist (15) 38. Division Three: 1 Tony Colborne (22) 39; 2 Will Turner (22) 34; 3 Matt Powne (28) 33.

Veterans' Section

THE veteran’s Thursday competition was a Greensome Stableford and 26 two-man teams took part.

Coming in first was the team of Marcus Beresford (15) and Brian Austin (22) with 38 points, while Dougie Howells (19) and Dave Smith (24) bagged second place scoring 37 points.

Three teams, all with 36 points, followed but after count-back Tony King (18) and Allan Huntington (30) were placed third.

Ladies' Section

Liz Thompson finished one foot from the pin on the ninth hole in the latest nine-hole flag competition, writes Avril Brown.

Brown was closely followed by Lyn Jessop, who finished two feet from the pin.

Meanwhile, the ladies' section would like to thank John White who kindly gave up his time to talk the ladies through these new rules with assistance from a number of props, making it a fun learning experience covering a serious subject.
