DORCHESTER Town’s Ability Counts teams began 2019 in style with all three sides starting the year unbeaten at Redlands.

Dorchester’s Durdle Door team’s first test was against a physical Poole Town side.

The Magpies’ first effort came from a Jamie Dixon long throw as striker Matt Dale hooked the ball around on the volley, although failed to guide it past the goalkeeper.

Dorchester keeper Kieran Davis was called into action throughout the first half, however his ability was called into question when a wayward goal kick landed into the path of Poole’s number nine but fortunately for Davis, the resulting kick had skimmed the post.

A nice passing move between Leon Richer and Dale culminated in a shot from the striker but it was straight at the gloveman.

Dorchester were straight out of the block in the second half with Jack Rose blazing down the right side, he cut in and shot, forcing the goalkeeper into a dramatic save.

New Magpies’ signing George Churchouse came closest to opening the scoring when the winger curled a shot from range, with the keeper left standing as the ball slammed against the crossbar before bouncing away, with the final score 0-0.

Dorchester’s next game was against Parley Sports and they dominated to record a complete thrashing.

Richer took the initiative for the Magpies by winning the ball back in his own half, travelling with it, and dragging the ball around the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

Richer turned provider for the second goal, threading it through to Dale, who curled it to the right of the stopper.

Dale tried to repay the favour for Richer later on, though the shot was tipped over the bar.

Dorchester’s constant pressing saw them vulnerable on the counter attack, and Parley took advantage, as Chris Armson fired it past Davis to narrow the scores at 2-1.

Dorchester continued to press, adamant that they could finish the tie in the first half.

Churchouse played it up to striker Emil Woodstock, who stopped, turned and laid the ball to Rose who powered the ball between the legs of the goalkeeper.

Tom Best made it 4-1 early in the second half, powering the ball in with his left foot from range, leaving the goalkeeper standing.

Dixon’s long chip up to Rose saw the star man bag his brace as he sidefooted it past the opposing custodian.

Rose’s constant pressure saw him almost set up Churchouse as he looped the ball with his back to goal in an attempt to keep the ball in play, but Churchouse’s touch was inches wide of the goalpost.

Moments later, Dorchester wrapped up the game in style as Bests’ corner was met by Richer’s left foot on the volley.

Magpies came close to a seventh, through Dixon, when one-on-one with the goalkeeper smashed the crossbar as the final score ended 6-1 to Dorchester.

Dorchester’s Lulworth team faced the only unbeaten team, Dorset Abilities Group, and beat them 2-1 thanks to a brace from returning captain fantastic Bren Butcher.
