LEWIS Craddock, Josh Hicks, Mannie Wellman and Pat Hart emerged victorious in the Gents’ Turkey Trot Texas Scramble at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club, writes Peter Crowter.

After the horrendous weather on Saturday a reasonably fine Sunday morning provided a window for the men to compete in their annual Christmas jolly.

Fifty-one players trotted round the course and the winning team was that of Craddock (6), Hicks (26), Wellman (6) and Hart (9) with a score of 58.3.

Close on their heels taking the runner-up spot were Phil Winton (14), Steve Battrick (17), Steve Crabb (7) and Dave Woodroffe (7) with 58.5.

Veterans’ Section

THE Christmas Texas Scramble, the veterans’ latest Thursday competition, attracted 18 three-man teams on an inclement morning owing to the brisk cold wind.

A minimum of four drives had to be used by each team member and the handicap was a 10th of the team’s total.

Richard Lomax (12), Dougie Howells (19) and Robert Froy (29) came in winners by a whisker with a score of 67.

Runners-up, marginally behind, were George Brown (12), Chris Roberts (23) and Len Green (28) carding 67.7.

Peter Marshall (10), Alan Scutt (22) and Gil Roberts (27) took third place with 69.1.

Ladies’ Section

MARION Hurley with an excellent 33 points took victory in the Chicken Chase competition, closely followed by Nicky Stone on 30, writes Avril Brown.

Sue Pakes finished third in this fun, single division, Christmas Stableford competition with a respectable 24 points.

There was a good turnout on the day with 22 lady members taking part and competing in the dry conditions.

The highlight of the day came when game bird lady captain Nicky Stone presented the prizes.

If this is a taste of things to come we are in for a very merry new year.

Regrettably, owing to appalling weather, the Saturday Chicken Run competition had to be cancelled. However, the ladies were undeterred and went ahead with their Christmas lunch.
