DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson feels the Magpies possess a “good chance” of beating Swindon Supermarine in their Evo-Stik Southern Premier South tussle at the Clayson Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

Thompson’s comment was made in relation to his side’s excellent recent form which has garnered five wins from six games.

The Magpies have also only been beaten once during regulation play in their past 11 matches – a 5-0 drubbing against Chesham.

A first home fixture in five outings disrupts an uplifting sequence of results for Dorchester on their travels, with three league away wins at Frome, Gosport and Staines followed by the magnificent 4-0 success at National League South side Eastbourne.

Dorchester have scored a total of 14 goals in their past three trips but Thompson, asked if he was looking forward to a rare home game, said: “I don’t know when you’ve won three on the spin!

“But yes, we are looking forward to getting back and hopefully trying to get three points at our ground. That’s a lot of away games on the spin, but it would be good to get home.

“Swindon Supermarine, it’ll be a tough game they’ve won 5-2 against Basingstoke on Saturday. We need to play as well as we did (at Eastbourne). If we do, we’ll have a good chance.”

In the context of the season, Swindon’s win at the Dragons lifts them into 17th, one place behind Dorchester and just a point adrift of the Magpies.

The battle in the lower reaches of the table looks set to be engrossing, with Dorchester one of 10 teams ranging from 12th to 21st separated by just six points.

Commenting on the situation, Thompson said: “It is a big game, they’re all big, all important against Frome, Gosport and Staines.

“Now it’s another important one against a team down below us. It’ll be two teams on roughly the same points.”

Striker Ben Seymour sits out the final match of his three-game ban, meaning in-form Tom Blair, who has five goals in two games, could continue to deputise up front.

Luke Winsper and Dom Panesar-Dower remain doubts as they battle a sickness and diarrhoea issue.
