DORCHESTER A 36

MOONFLEET A 28

DORCHESTER once again came out on top over close rivals Moonfleet with a 36-28 in the National Over-60 Double Rink competition.

The Dorchester home quartet of John Lawlor, Phil Hallett, Dave Joslin and Roger Nicholas took on Moonfleet, skipped by Barry Patterson, with Keith Wyman, Andy Clark, and Ron McCarthy.

The visitors’ four did not get off to the best of starts falling 5-0 behind, before responding to 5-4.

Dorchester then regained control of the game and gradually increased their lead to finish 19-8.

The county town away rink of Brian Paulson, Bill Ford, Dave Tremlin and skip Ged Costello played out a more competitive encounter against Moonfleet home quartet of Warwick Brown, Mike Gale, Michael Durant and Doug Rumble.

Moonfleet carved out a healthy 15-7 lead and seemed on course to offset the losing rink at Dorchester holding an aggregate advantage of 21-14 at the midpoint of the game.

A spirited and vital fight back from Costello’s rink enabled Dorchester to eat into the Moonfleet overall lead to such good effect that Rumble and co saw an eight-shot lead slump to a final single shot 20-19 win.

Dorchester take on Ilminster in the next round.
